It's our passion. - -Primary Purpose -Operates ultrasound equipment used to produce quality routine and fairly complex diagnostic scans toensure optimal patient care. -Minimum Specifications -Education--- Must have successfully completed an allied health education program in Cardiac ultrasound.Accreditation required within six (6) months after hire. -Experience--- A minimum of one year of cardiac ultrasound experience in a hospital setting is preferred. -Equivalent Education and/or Experience--- A minimum of one year of cardiac ultrasound experience in a hospital clinical setting, OR--- Successful completion of an allied health education program in Cardiac ultrasound. Accreditationrequired within six (6) months after hire. -Certification/Registration/Licensure--- Cardiac sonographers should be registered as a Sonographer by the American Registry forDiagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)with current active status at the time of hire or must obtain within 6 (six) months of employment. ---- Must have a current Healthcare Provider (BLS Level) CPR course completion card prior to hire and/orplacement in job from one of the following: ---- American Heart Association--- American Red Cross Rescuer--- Military Training Network - -Skills or Special Abilities--- Must be able to operate various types of ultrasound equipment used in performing procedures.--- Must be able to communicate effectively.--- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of both normal and abnormal anatomy.--- Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors. -Responsibilities1. Operates ultrasound equipment used to produce fairly complex diagnostic scans to ensureoptimal patient care.2. Evaluates and verifies the image quality according to PHHS standards to ensure the observanceof quality control protocol.3. Reviews and interprets intermediate/complex exams with attending physician to determine ifadditional procedures are required.4. Determines equipment needs for fairly complex examinations to ensure the availability of neededsupplies.5. Identifies and distinguishes appropriate modality of cardiac ultrasound including motion mode,Doppler, two dimensional and color flow and operates ultrasound to ensure the most effectivesonographic records.6. Maintains and performs intermediate troubleshooting of ultrasound equipment and informssupervisor as needed to ensure maximum availability of operable equipment.7. Inspects, cleans, and prepares exam rooms after each patient to ensure the efficiency of patientflow within the area.8. Completes, logs, and distributes billing reports to appropriate individuals to ensure the accuracy ofpatient charges.9. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer (internal as well as external)satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results asappropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of the PHHS.10. Participates in various research studies regarding intermediate sonographic procedures with othermedical staff to ensure improved information sharing.11. Provides clinical instructions for new physicians and fellows in the area regarding sonographicpractices and procedures to ensure the competency of all health care providers. Assists residentsin obtaining diagnostic images as necessary. Serves as a resource for new staff as needed.12. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in Sonography by attendingseminars and workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professionalorganizations, and maintaining certification, and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into thejob. Responsible for training and supervising assigned students as needed.13. Maintains a positive working relationship and serves as a resource person for physicians, othersonographers, students, and patients to ensure an efficient flow of patient information.14. Maintains a knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines, that impactthe Sonography area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicablestate/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, andprivate health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.Job AccountabilitiesJob Accountabilities1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Integrates knowledge gained intocurrent work practices.3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact thearea. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws,accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans.
