This is a fully, grant-funded -ENTRY
LEVEL -support position. Pay range is of this position $34.00 -
$36.50 per hour, including shift differentials.During training,
you'll work 4/10-hour shifts for the first four months, which may
include days. After training, you will have flexibility in your
shift options, with the ability to choose between 8-hour, 10-hour,
or 12-hour shifts as long as the shift covers late-night and
overnight hours, specifically from 10 pm - 2 am. -Ideal position
for Foreign MD/OD Degree -with patient facing/care experience;
Registered Nurses and/or Semi-retired (RNs) seeking a flexible,
less physically demanding position. - -Primary Purpose:
Serves as a resource to health professionals and the public by
providing professional and technical assistance regarding potential
poisonings and conducting educational and research projects to
ensure Poison Center operations meets regulatory requirements and
the needs of users.

- Serves as a resource to the public and health professionals
related to potential poisonings by answering calls and providing
consultation to include information, direction, and assistance
concerning analytical toxicology, emergency and critical care and
extracorporeal capabilities within the region. Ensures procedures
meet the criteria established by the American Association of Poison
Control Centers.
- Coordinates poison services, performs referral services,
identification, treatment, assessment, and charting activities,
conducts analysis, calculates patients' toxicity level and performs
follow-up calls. Maintains documentation and records and prepares
reports. Ensure services meet North Texas Poison Center (NTPC)
policies and procedures.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and
trends in poison information by attending seminars and workshops,
reading professional journals and/or maintaining
licensure/registration with Texas State Board for profession.
Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Participates in data and research projects on a monthly basis.
Exercises responsibility for project performance and accountability
for progress; and/or personally performs advanced scientific and
medical research work, suggesting modifications to, or improvements
in, design of research projects, presenting original ideas for
follow-up studies, and recommending utilization of new or revised
techniques and procedures to obtain desired results. 5.
- Participates in call monitoring and performance improvement
initiatives on a monthly basis to ensure the poison center is
operating effectively.
- Serves as a preceptor or trainer to newer staff members.
- Prepares and conducts an in-service educational program for the
assigned department, at least once per year.
- Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes,
workflows, etc. for the NTPC and implements appropriate changes to
improve effectiveness, productivity, efficiency and recommending
annual goals and objectives that support the overall goals of
NTPC.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies,
laws, and guidelines that impact the Poison Information area.
Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to
applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of
accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health
plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper
understanding.
- RN's Only: -Must demonstrate ability to provide care to
assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of
Texas Nursing Practice Act, established protocols,
multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific
standards. - -Minimum Qualifications:Education - -
ASN or BSN from an accredited
Professional School of Nursing; --or-B.Pharm or Pharm.D. from an
accredited Pharmacy school; --or-M.D. or D.O. from an accredited
Medical/Osteopathy school.
Experience -
- One (1) year of verifiable, professional Registered Nurse (RN),
Pharmacist, or Physician patient facing/patient care experience in
a hospital environment within the last two (2) years.
-Clinicals/Internships/Volunteer experience for degree plans will
not substitute -for the required work experience. -
Certification/Registration/Licensure - -
- Must have and maintain a current American Association of Poison
Control Centers (AAPCC) Poison Information Specialist
certification; -or -must obtain within five (5) years of
hire/placement into role and maintain thereafter.
- RN's Only: -Must have current/valid State of TX RN license or
valid temporary permit; --or- -Compact RN license in good standing
without any restrictions/stipulations.
- Pharmacist's Only: -Must be a State of TX Registered Pharmacist
or become registered within 90 days of hire. - - - - -Parkland
