Job Description:
Job Summary: Provide high-quality nursing care to patients, lead
and supervise nursing staff, and contribute to a positive patient
experience in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Responsible for patient assessment, care planning, and provision of
quality nursing care to an assigned group of patients. Provides
direction and supervision to nursing staff, including LVNs/LPNs,
nursing assistants, and unit secretaries. May function as a charge
nurse for the unit, overseeing patient care and ensuring a safe and
therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive nursing care plans that
address patient needs and problems
- Provide safe and effective patient care, prioritizing based on
patient acuity and needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient
care and achieve positive outcomes
- Supervise and evaluate nursing staff, providing feedback and
coaching to improve performance
- Contribute to a positive patient experience by promoting open
communication and addressing concerns
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Utilizes the Nursing Process: Uses critical thinking skills to
assess patient needs, develops and implements care plans, and
evaluates patient response to care
- Patient Throughput & Patient Flow Process: Anticipates and
plans for admission/discharge/transfer needs, utilizing systems of
communication and tools to facilitate patient flow
- Unit Operations: Plans, directs, and evaluates nursing care and
functions in a particular nursing unit, demonstrating good
stewardship of equipment and supplies
- Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations: Incorporates patient
safety practices, demonstrates accountability for nursing research
and quality improvement activities, and provides evidence-based
nursing care
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Clinical Policies and Standards: Follows specific standards and
procedures, analyzes policy documentation, and provides feedback
for improvement
- Health Information Documentation: Maintains accurate and
complete patient records, transcribes verbal orders, and explains
health information documentation best practices
- Medical Equipment: Describes experience with medical equipment,
uses diagnostic tools to resolve common equipment problems, and
ensures equipment is in proper working order
- Medical Order Processing: Processes medical orders, describes
functions and features of the system, and explains considerations
for entering and following standing orders
- Patient Chart Reading and Interpretation: Reads and interprets
patient charts, recognizes unexpected readings, and alerts nursing
or medical staff
- Patient Safety: Ensures safety for patients, recognizes and
addresses physiological and psychological signs of problems, and
utilizes systems to document misses and near misses
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred
- Six months to a year of experience as a licensed RN or holder
of an active GN permit
- BLS required, RN License in state of employment or compact
Work Schedule: 7PM - 7AM
